This was captured in August 2015. The location is at the end of Macedonia Church Road, across the cove from Billy Dreher Island on Lake Murray, near Chapin, SC.
I could not see much star detail naked-eye, but only a very faint band of stars at the core due to light pollution. There was a good amount of post-processing needed to reduce that pollution and to accentuate the core and stars.
I normally don't like light pollution in Milky Way images, but with the long 20 second exposure smoothing out the water and the light reflecting off the clouds, the results appealed to me.
