Church of Prince William's Parrish, known as Sheldon Church. Located 6 miles south of Yemassee, SC. Built between 1745 & 1755. Burned by the British Army in 1779. Rebuilt 1826. Burned by the Federal Army in 1865. Dismantled by local freedmen ca. 1865-1867. Lots of old tombs on site. Two of the Bull Family tombs can be seen near the rear right corner, between two trees. I love this!! I would love to visit here someday! I am such a history buff and I would love to read more about this church. Can you recommend any books?
Charles Hite replied:
Gosh, thanks Elizabeth! This is an interesting place to visit. I really don't know any more about it other than what I have in its description. If you ever make it down here, its an easy place to find. Books...haven't really looked for any. Google old Sheldon Church, you'll turn up some info. Let me recommend a great resource for neat places in our state. Its SCIWAY.net. Look at the category links on the left side. Hope this helps.
